形态特征:马鞭。科桢桐属小灌木植物嫩枝稍有柔毛，枝内白色中髓坚实。叶宽卵形或卵形，有强烈臭味，长10-20厘米，宽5-l5厘米，边缘有锯齿。聚伞花序紧密，顶生，花冠淡红色或红色、紫色，有臭味。核果倒卵形或卵形，直径0.8-1.2厘米，成熟后蓝紫色。
生境分布:生于山坡、林缘或沟旁。分布于华北、西北、西南各省。
用途:根、茎、叶入药，有祛风解毒、消毒止痛之效。
