化学成分为CaTiO3、晶体属正交（斜方）晶系的氧化物矿物。以俄国伯爵П．А．佩罗夫斯基(Перовский)的姓命名。常含钠、铈、铁、铌等。外形常呈假等轴晶系的似立方体或八面体。浅色至棕色，金刚光泽。摩斯硬度5.5，比重4.0。钙钛矿多为基性或碱性火成岩中的副矿物，在与石灰岩的接触带中也有产出。大量富集时可用于提炼钛、稀土元素和铌。俄罗斯的科拉半岛是世界著名的产地。
