雉科(Phasianidae)，雉科种类繁多，分布广泛，但以亚洲东南部包括我国南方最为集中，还有不少特产于我国的种类。雉科的有些种类雌雄相差不大，羽色暗淡，其它一些的雄性则有极端华丽的羽毛，属于最美丽的鸟类之列。雉科有26属166种，我国有21属49种。
雉科拥有很多种非常美丽和非常珍贵的鸟，在我国境内特别是我国的西南地区，雉类资源尤其丰富，有“雉类的王国”之称，而其中有超过一半的种类是国家重点保护野生动物，大约1/3是我国的特产种。雉类又分为鹑族，雉族，眼斑雉族和孔雀族4族。
