聚乙烯醇缩甲醛是由聚乙烯醇与甲醛在酸性催化剂存在下缩醛化而得，或者是将聚醋酸乙烯酯溶于醋酸或醇中，在酸性催化剂作用下与甲醛进行水解和缩醛化反应制得。白色或微黄色至无定形固体，相对密度1. 24、软化点140－150 ℃。马丁耐热115-120 ℃，吸水性0．5％-3．0％，透光率80％-90％，洛氏硬度M80-90。聚乙烯醇缩甲醛纤维商品名称维尼纶。溶于二氯乙烷、二氧六环、醇／苯(30／70)、醇类、甲酸、乙酸、酚类、糠醛等溶剂中。具有良好的粘接性、耐水性、耐油性、耐酸性、而碱性、电气绝缘性。强度、刚度和硬度都比较大。最高使用温度130-165℃。可燃，冒黑烟．熔融滴落并有特殊气味。
用于配制酚醛-缩醛胶粘剂，如铁锚20l、202、203胶粘剂。贮存于阴凉、通风、干燥的库房内，防火、防热、防潮。
