   发育于温带半干旱草原植被下的土壤。上部呈栗色,下部有菌丝状或斑块状或网纹状的钙积层。主要分布于欧洲大陆温带草原和北美温带草原地区,中国主要分布于内蒙古境内。成土过程有明显的有机质和碳酸钙聚积,碳酸钙富集过程相当明显。土壤溶液为盐基所饱和,呈弱碱性反应,全剖面pH在7.2~9.0之间,上部稍低,下部偏高。质地较轻,颗粒组成中以细砂占绝对优势。植被由旱生多年生草本植物组成,主要是丛生禾草,走茎类和根茎类禾草、旱生类杂草及草原灌木与半灌木等也有存在。中国栗钙土植被,无论是种类、组成、生长高度、覆盖度或产量,都是从东向西递减趋势。根据栗钙土形成条件的差异,分为暗栗钙土、淡栗钙土、栗钙土、草甸栗钙土4个亚类。栗钙土区以发展畜牧业为主,应合理安排草场,分区轮牧,防止草场退化。水分条件较好的地方,可农、牧结合,营造防护林带网,建立人工饲草饲料带,增施肥料,发展灌溉,同时注意防止土壤次生盐化。
