又称闭口音,俗称哼鸣。闭口出声并延长即得哼唱之音,亦即有声母m的延长音。记谱时常用hum──或m......表示。人们在生活中常用这种方式来哼一曲调;在艺术歌唱中，无论是独唱、重唱或合唱,也有时使用。例如,G.普契尼的歌剧《蝴蝶夫人》中就有一段著名的全部用哼唱的合唱曲,音色柔和悦耳。哼唱时眉间有振动感,容易得到声音的共鸣。在歌唱训练中，很多声乐教师让学生通过哼唱来找呼吸支持、发音位置等歌唱发声的基本感觉,并用这种感觉带出各个元音（如m-ma，m-mo、m-mi）。闭口哼唱，如m，另一种为开口哼唱,如ng。有训练的哼唱也和一般歌唱一样要求深呼吸、打开喉咙和高位置等。哼唱在中声区较易，在高声区则较难，因为这更需要呼吸支持和排除喉部等处对发声的干扰。正确的哼唱有助于嗓音训练，能减轻嗓音的疲劳；错误的哼唱，尤其是在高声区，对嗓音是有害的。
