However, if we look at it from a fresh and new perspective—the religious complex embodied in her works—such as the three religious symbols, “ the flood”, “the Blessed Virgin” and “the last rescue” contained in the ending of this novel, it is conspicuous that the ending is reasonable; also, we could perceive George Eliot’s humanistic religion from these symbols.
