1941年苏联物理学家∏.Л.卡皮察发现：当热量从固体通过固体与超流液氦的界面时，界面两侧的温度有一个不连续的跃变。这一由界面引起的热阻被称作卡皮察热阻。在热流量较小时，界面两侧温差与单位面积上的热流成正比，并随温度的下降而迅速增加。卡皮察热阻在极低温下是传热的最大障碍。
现已证实，当热流经超流液氦流向固体时，在界面上也同样出现温度跃变，其大小及与温度的依赖关系大致与卡皮察热阻相似。这一现象称作反向卡皮察热阻。
关于形成卡皮察热阻的机制问题，多年来一直是低温物理领域内的一项重要课题。
现已证实，当热流经超流液氦流向固体时，在界面上也同样出现温度跃变，其大小及与温度的依赖关系大致与卡皮察热阻相似。这一现象称作反向卡皮察热阻。
