| 国际海事卫星组织 International Maritime Satellite Organization 经营海事卫星，为船舶通信和定位等服务的国际合营股份公司。英文简称INMARSAT。由各缔约国投资兴建。其宗旨是为改进海上通信而提供所必需的空间段，从而有助于改进海上遇险和人命安全通信、海上公众通信，并提高船舶效率和无线电定位能力。政府间海事协商组织（现改名国际海事组织）经过一系列准备 ，于 1976 年9 月召开会议 ， 通过了《 国际海事卫星组织公约 》和《 国际海事卫星 组织业务协定》。公约于1979年7月16日正式生效。同年10月24～26日在伦敦召开了国际海事卫星组织第一届全体大会，宣告国际海事卫星组织成立。总部设在伦敦。最高权力机构是大会 ，另设有理事会、财务委员会、技术委员会和执行局。执行局在最高负责人总干事的领导下负责处理日常事务。国际海事卫星组织的主要活动是讨论海事卫星通信的要求，制定地面站和船站接入国际海事卫星组织空间段的标准和批准程序 ，确定空间段方案和卫星轨道，制定财务政策。中国于1979年7月签署了上述公约和协定，参加了国际海事卫星组织。 |
