      葡萄糖衍生的糖醛酸,分子式COH(CHOH)4COOH。葡萄糖醛酸很少以游离形式存在于自然界,大都存在于糖苷或多糖中,尤其是粘多糖中。在血液和尿中能检出痕量的葡萄糖醛酸。它是透明质酸、肝素(抗血凝剂)、硫酸软骨素的成分。某些半纤维素、多聚糖醛酸、植物胶及多种微生物代谢产生的多糖中,均含有D-葡萄糖醛酸。由于非离子化的羧基能使糖苷键大大趋于稳定,β-D-葡萄吡喃糖醛酸β-萘酚酯甲基苷的水解速率,为相应的β-D-葡萄吡喃糖甲基苷的1/45。
  
  D-葡萄糖苷用选择催化氧化可得到D-葡萄糖醛酸,收率很高。D-葡萄糖醛酸是糖生物代谢的中间体,在动物代谢中起着重要作用。在动物体内,它能与酚类、甾醇和芳香羧酸结合,以葡萄糖醛酸酯的形式排泄出体外,起解毒作用。葡萄糖醛酸内酯可用作保肝药物和食物中毒的解毒剂。
