具有高光学分辨力的高速扫描热像仪。通常装在飞机的头部,摄取飞机前方和下方景物的红外辐射,在驾驶舱的显示器上以电视格式显示，须达到每秒钟50场的无闪烁感的红外图像。一般电视所用的任何辅助设备，如录像机、信号处理机、数据发送和接收装置等，都可在前视红外仪上使用。前视红外仪工作在 8～12微米波段。一般都采用多元红外探测器列阵（多达 200元的线列）来实现高性能指标：300～400线的电视图像，温度分辨力仍可达 0.1。前视红外仪是热成像技术在军事上的一项重要应用，可以完成夜间监视，目标捕获、定位和指引，火炮和导弹的瞄准攻击等，也能作为白天或夜间飞机滑行、起飞和着陆时的辅助导航设备。
