| 磨料 abrasive 在磨削、研磨和抛光中起切削作用的颗粒状材料。主要用于制造磨具，也可直接用于某些研磨和抛光工作。早在旧石器时代人类就已开始用砂子研磨骨制工具。中国在公元前16世纪就使用天然磨料磨制铜器和玉器。1891年美国的E.G.艾奇逊在电炉内制出最早的人造磨料碳化硅。1897年研制成功人造刚玉。1934年碳化硼磨料问世。50年代前后，美国相继出现了单晶刚玉、微晶刚玉、铬刚玉和锆刚玉等产品。随后人造金刚石和立方氮化硼也相继问世。通常磨料应具备较高的硬度、适当的强度、高温稳定性和化学惰性等性质。磨料颗粒的粗细以粒度表示。以筛分法分级的颗粒，其粒度通常以筛分时通过的最细筛网的目数表示。粒度对被加工零件的表面质量和加工效率有很大影响。常用的磨料多为硬质非金属材料，根据来源不同可分为：①天然磨料。直接用天然矿岩经拣选、破碎、分级或其他加工处理后制成，如天然刚砂、天然刚玉、石榴石和天然金刚石等。②人造磨料。以人工方法炼制或合成，如刚玉、碳化硅、碳化硼、人造金刚石和立方氮化硼等。
