中国科学技术情报工作者的学术性群众团体，是中国科学技术协会的组成部分。1978年成立于北京，任务是团结全国广大科技情报工作者，积极开展国内外科学技术情报学术活动，促进科学技术情报学术的发展。截至1989年共有会员 1.3万人、团体会员21个。学会的最高领导机构是全国会员代表大会，大会闭幕期间，由理事会代行大会职权。理事会任期 4年。理事会选举产生理事长、副理事长、秘书长和常务理事会。1988年 4月在北京换届时武衡继任理事长，汪廷炯、李永新、左毅、袁跃俊当选为副理事长，王熹当选为秘书长。王熹因公离任后，补选陈炳刚为秘书长。在一、二届理事会担任过副理事长，秘书长的有江明、聂春荣、高尚林、林自新、胡安群、张征秉、陶毅、李新、刘昭东。理事会下设 5个工作委员会，即学术委员会、组织委员会、科普委员会、国际联络委员会和《情报学报》编委会；理事会下还设7个专业委员会,即情报政策与管理委会员、情报研究委员会、情报理论方法委员会、编译报道委员会、计算机应用委员会、情报源开发利用委员会和情报教育委员会。出版物有：《情报学报》、《中国科技情报学会会讯》和《学术会议论文选》。
