补充资料:当阳铁塔
      中国古代大型铸铁建筑物之一(见彩图)。位于湖北省当阳县玉泉寺山门外。据塔身铭文记载建于宋嘉祐六年(1061),耗铁七万六千六百斤。塔高17.9米,塔身现稍向东北方倾斜。铁塔底座和13层塔身是宋代铸成;铜塔刹是清道光十五年(1835)后铸的。塔为八角形仿木结构,外为铁壳,内为砖墙,塔心中空。底座基部周长9.6米;塔身从下至上每层周长和高度逐渐减小,到第十三层塔檐处,周长减至4.3米。底座和塔壁铸有花纹和仪态不同的大小佛像。有八尊铁金刚(现存六尊)铸接在底座的八个拐角处(见图)。铁金刚的头顶有钢柱插入上面的铸件中。铁塔共由44块铸件组成:底座为四块,第一层分塔身、塔檐二块,第二层以上每层各有平座、塔身、塔檐三块,顶为莲花盆和塔刹二块。塔系麻口铁铸成,经取样化验,铁塔的化学成分为:碳3.66%,硅0.05%,锰0.05%,硫0.022%,磷 0.29%。
