英国画家、作家。1882年11月 8日生于加拿大新斯科舍的阿默斯特附近的一艘游艇上，1957年3月7日卒于伦敦。幼年曾就读于伦敦的斯莱德美术学校。1913年发起建立反抗艺术中心,在漩涡派的创建中是主要人物,并是该运动的刊物《狂风》的主编。在斯莱德美术学校时，他的素描就引人注目。他曾发展了一种半抽象的风格，既像立体主义又像未来主义，画面充满棱角、机器形状。作为官方战地艺术家，他把这种风格带到他的战争画中，同时也带到肖像画中，因之出了名。他还是伦敦集团最早的成员,不过不久就离开了。1920年他曾试图以X小组名义恢复旋涡派，但未成功。他作为小说家和社会讽刺评论家的声望很高，对许多年轻艺术家有很大的影响。
