中国现代高等美术院校。1948年创建于晋绥边区，次年迁至陕西省西安市，更名为西北军政大学艺术学院。1953～1957年间曾多次更名。1980年恢复西安美术学院建制。
西安美术学院在教学上，继承和发扬延安鲁迅艺术文学院的革命传统，贯彻党的教育方针，为社会主义建设培养德智体全面发展的美术人才。该院设有中国画、油画、版画、雕塑、工艺美术、师范美术等6个系,面向西北地区招收4年、5年制本科生和2年制专科生及3年制研究生,并附设美术中学。西安美术学院有学生600余名，教职工300余名,其中教授、副教授15名（1988年统计）。历任院长有柯仲平、钟纪明、刘笈山、刘恒之、刘蒙天、陈启南。
西安美术学院还编辑出版学报《西部美术》。
