美国黑人女高音歌唱家。1927年 2月10日生于密西西比州劳雷尔。1949～1952年就学于纽约朱利亚德音乐学院。在校期间曾参加演出《福斯塔夫》和《三幕剧中的四圣徒》等歌剧。她正式登台是1952年，在G.格什温的《波吉与贝丝》一剧中扮演贝丝。并随剧团周游欧美各地作巡回演出，获得很高的声誉。1955年在美国全国广播公司电视中心演出电视剧《托斯卡》。1957年在旧金山歌剧院扮演《加尔默罗会修女的对话》中的莉多依娜和《阿依达》中的女主角。此后相继在伦敦皇家歌剧院、维也纳国家歌剧院、米兰拉斯卡拉歌剧院演出均获得成功。1960年在萨尔茨堡音乐节上她扮演《唐璜》中的安娜小姐，深受 H.von卡拉扬的赏识。普赖斯的演唱，以抒情性见长，能在戏剧性高潮时有力而透彻地抒发角色的真挚情感。她扮演的阿依达最为出色，由于她的非凡的艺术成就，1965年荣获美国总统授予的自由勋章。
