Neisseria gonorrhoeae is one of the most common bacteria of thesexually transmitted infectious disease (STD) with high morbidity.

Gonorrhea was one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases;with the widespread use of antibiotics, the resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae became more and more serious.

Objective To determine the characteristics of Neisseria meningitides (Nm) in Guangdong Province in different epidemic periods, especially after late 1980s.

Objective: To establish a PCR optimal system for detecting Neisseria meningitides, and discuss multiple factors which affect this PCR assay.

[Conclusion] The real-time PCR assay is rapid, sensitive and specific assay for detection of Neisseria meningitides, and could be a valuable method for further understanding of the epidemiology of meningococcal infection.
