为保障军队后方指挥和供应而建立的通信联络。它是军事通信的组成部分。后方通信包括上下级后方机关之间，后方机关同所属后方部队、分队之间，上级派出的供应机构同被供应的单位之间的通信联络。后方通信根据后方指挥关系和供应关系，由各级司令部统一组织，或由后方机关根据司令部的通信计划自行组织。通常以固定通信设施与野战通信装备相结合，同指挥通信、协同通信、警报通信和报知通信组成统一的通信系统，也可单独组成通信网。建立后方通信的方法：①无线电通信。通常组织后方无线电网，人员、器材各自负责或由上级负责。②有线电通信。通过有关通信枢纽接转或由上级负责建立通信线路。③运动通信。可直接建立或指定有关通信枢纽负责。 当直接建立时，人员、 器材各自负责。④简易信号通信。按上级统一规定的信号实施，人员、器材各自负责。
