    (马蹄、地栗、乌芋、通天草)
形态特征:莎草科荸荠属水生草本植物,高15-60厘米。有细长匍匐根状茎。其顶端生球茎,即荸荠。秆多数,丛生,直立,圆柱状,中空,直径2-5毫米,有多数横隔膜,光滑无毛。叶退化,只在秆基部有2-3个叶鞘,绿黄色、紫红色或褐色,长3-20厘米。夏季开花,小穗顶生,圆柱状,长2-4厘米,淡绿色。小坚果宽倒卵形,长约3毫米,成熟时棕色。 
    生境分布:我国大部分地区栽培。朝鲜、日本、越南、印度也有。
    用途:球茎食用或药用。清热止渴、利湿化痰、降血压。
