光弹性法的一种，它是在光弹性模型中待测应力的部位夹入具有双折射效应的薄片，利用薄片所显示的干涉条纹进行应力分析。双折射薄片可以夹在诸如有机玻璃等不具有光弹性效应的透明模型中，夹片的光学、力学和热学的性能应尽量和模型的性能相同。薄片也可以夹在性能相同的双折射模型中，但为了只显示薄片的干涉条纹，必须在薄片的两个表面上粘贴偏振片。为了消除观测时的折射影响，整个模型还必须浸没在折射率和模型材料相同的液体中。
