NCEP/NCAR 1°×1° reanalysis data,satellite images,mesoscale automatic weather station(AWS) data and operational weather data are used in this paper to diagnose the possible reasons of the rapid intensification of the super typhoon Saomai,when landing,whose maximum gust swiftly strengthens to 68 m/s and average diameter concentrates in a very small spatial scale of less than 300 km.
