石灰岩 limestone 一种沉积碳酸岩。主要成分为方解石,有时含少量白云石,常混入石英、长石、云母和粘土矿物等。呈灰色或灰白色,性脆,硬度较小,用铁器易划出擦痕遇稀盐酸剧烈起泡。石灰岩按成因可划分为粒屑石灰岩(流水搬运、沉积形成)、生物骨架石灰岩和化学、生物化学石灰岩;按结构构造还可进一步细分,如竹叶状灰岩、鲕状灰岩、团块状灰岩等。石灰岩易溶蚀,故在石灰岩地区多形成石林和溶洞,称为喀斯特地形。它是烧制石灰和水泥的主要原料,也是制化肥和电石的原料,还被用于冶炼钢铁、制糖、陶瓷、玻璃、印刷等工业。
