GT即是Grand Touring，Grand的意思是大，而Touring的意思是旅行。Grand Touring加在一起，其实是解作大型的旅行车。远在欧洲尚未有汽车的年代中，Grand Touring在当时是解作长途旅行时所使用的大型马车的车厢。但是现在随着时代不断的演进与变迁，马车早已经被汽车所淘汰，而Grand Touring的意思也就转变为大马力的汽车。在赛车界中，GT就是被指为拥有大马力动力输出，同时有车顶设计的双门双人所乘坐的超级跑车(开蓬跑车不能算为GT赛车)因此GT的中文名称或许应该称之为世界上最顶级的超级跑车吧。
