植物形态：落叶灌木，干粗壮，高达2米，枝丛生，密生绒毛、腺毛及皮刺。叶互生，奇数羽状复叶，小叶5~9片，椭圆形至卵状椭圆形，长2~5厘米，宽1~2厘米，基部圆形或楔形，先端钝头或圆头，边缘具细锯齿，表面暗绿色，无毛，稍皱缩，背面苍白色有柔毛，叶柄上密生绒毛，托叶大形，叶状，中部以下附着于叶柄上，边缘有腺点。花红色偶有白色，单独或2~3朵顶生，萼筒略带球形，花托及花萼均具腺毛，萼5片，花瓣5片或为重瓣，雄蕊多数，雌蕊多数，分离，包于花托内，花托成熟后为红色，内有多数小瘦果，呈扁形。 生态分布：产我国北部。 药用部分：花及根入药，5月盛开花时采收花入药，根四季可采。 用途：性味甘、微苦、温，气香，无毒。其花用于矫味矫嗅药，并有收敛性，用于妇女月经过多，赤白带下，一般肠炎，痢疾；又为香染原料。用量：1~3钱。
