制动装置：是按照需要使汽车减速或在最短的距离内停车，(使汽车)在保证安全的前提下尽量发挥出高速行驶的性能的装置。一般分为鼓式和盘式两种。鼓式制动器的优点是，成本低，防尘，便于同时作为驻车制动器。缺点是尺寸大，质量重，制动热量不易散发出去，制动稳定性不好。盘式制动器：是目前轿车前轮常用的制动器。一般都是钳盘式制动器。盘式制动器与传统的鼓式制动器比较，有以下有点：散热条件好，因此制动稳定性好，抗热衰退性强； 尺寸和质量小。
