法国电影导演。1889年10月25日生于巴黎，1981年卒于巴黎。冈斯曾参加过先锋派电影运动,早期拍过《马泰·多罗侯隆》(1917)、《第十交响乐》(1918)等有名作品。不久,又拍了《我控诉》(1919)和《车轮》(1923)等作品。前者描写第一次世界大战，后者描写铁路工人的生活。这是两部史诗般的宏伟作品。在影片中，他自觉运用了美国电影导演D.W.格里菲斯的剪辑方法。1925～1927年,冈斯在他的规模宏大的影片《拿破仑》中,成功地运用快速剪辑与叠印手法，并且将画面同时放映在3面组接在一起的银幕上,成像最高达到16幅画面，其势气吞山河,这便是有名的多景银幕片。1934年,他在重新拍摄的《拿破仑》中，第一个运用立体声手段。以后他又拍了《不朽的情侣》(1936)、《失去的天堂》(1940)、《失明的维纳斯》(1943)等影片。1942年以后冈斯被迫失业，在这之后的10年中冈斯几乎被人们遗忘。1953年，冈斯重操旧业,拍摄了多景银幕片《七月十四日》,1956年拍摄了多景银幕片《玛吉拉玛》。1971年，雄心不减当年的冈斯又一次将拿破仑的形像搬上了银幕，拍摄了影片《波拿巴与革命》。
