| 金鸡纳属 Cinchona 茜草科的一属。约有40余种，产南美洲，栽培作为药用的主要有4～5种，中国栽培有金鸡纳树，原产南美洲，中国云南、台湾有引种。乔木，树皮黄色，叶对生，有托叶，椭圆形或披针形；花5数，黄白色，有强烈的气味。蒴果椭圆形，室间开裂，内有种子多颗；种子具翅。该种奎宁含量最高。 金鸡纳属几种植物的树皮、枝皮和根皮称金鸡纳。这些树皮含有20多种生物碱，其中含量最多、在医药上最为重要的是奎宁，又称金鸡纳碱、金鸡纳霜，其次为弱金鸡纳碱 ，又称辛可宁。奎宁是重要的抗疟药，能消灭各种疟原虫的裂殖体，抑制疟疾的发展。
