用装在高速旋转刀盘上的成形刀头从工件上铣削出螺纹的螺纹加工方法,因铣削速度很高,切屑飞溅如旋风而得名。旋风切削主要用于加工丝杠和螺旋送料杆等长的外螺纹工件,也可加工直径较大的内螺纹和环形槽等,所用的机床一般是专门的旋风铣床或在普通车床的溜板上附装一个旋风头。旋风切削螺纹根据旋风头与工件间的相互位置,可分为外切法和内切法两种(见图)。旋风头的环形刀盘的外圆周(外切法)或内圆周(内切法)上装有均匀分布的数把硬质合金成形刀头,由1台电动机驱动作高速旋转。一般采用4把刀头,其中2把用于粗切螺纹,1把用于倒角,1把用于精切螺纹。刀盘轴线相对工件轴线倾斜一个螺旋升角λ。工件由机床主轴驱动作低速旋转,工件每转1转旋风头移动1个螺距或导程。内切法与外切法比较,刀头与工件接触弧较长,加工表面质量较高,刀具寿命较长,故应用比外切法广泛。加工内螺纹时,只能采用外切法。旋风切削梯形螺纹的精度一般可达 7~9级(JB2886-81)。表面粗糙度为Ra5~0.63微米。由于切削速度很高,且一次走刀即可加工成形,生产率可比普通车削或铣削螺纹提高几倍。
