中国畜牧兽医学工作者的学术性群众团体。其宗旨和基本任务是组织全国畜牧兽医工作人员开展学术活动，促进中国畜牧兽医科学的发展，并对建设中国畜牧兽医事业，发挥咨询作用。1936年成立于南京。中华人民共和国成立后,于1955年1月召开第一次全国代表大会。现任理事长陈凌风。下设学术、编辑、科普及教育、国际交流和组织 5个委员会及22个学科研究会。各省、市、自治区设有分会。学会开展的活动有组织和召开各种专业和综合性学术会议、国际学术交流，开展技术咨询和组织在职科技人员培训等。主办《中国畜牧兽医学报》、《中国畜牧杂志》、《中国兽医杂志》等学术刊物，还编辑出版科学普及知识读物等。
