是一种以教育实验为标志的教育思潮，19世纪30年代，在德国生理学家米勒（johannes miller）的倡导下，生理学逐渐成为一门倾向于实验的独立科学，同时也为心理学准备了它作为一门科学所必须的自然科学知识和实验研究的方法。在经验主义和实证主义以及实验生理学的影响下，作为其标志的德国心理学家冯特1897年在莱比锡大学创设了世界上第一个心理学实验室，至此，实验心理学得以诞生和发展。冯特利用这个实验室培养了一大批学生，在这样的背景下，实验教育家的早期教育实验很难和心理实验分开。无论在思想和方法上，实验心理学都为实验教育思想提供了可以直接借鉴和吸取的东西。1901年，德国教育家梅伊曼首先将实验教育思想称为“实验教育学”，1907年，德国教育家拉伊又出版了《实验教育学》一书，系统阐释了实验教育思想。随后众多的教育学家加以发展。实验教育学家认为，应该从实验心理学的角度出发，采用心理学实验的方法来分析和研究教育问题。
