在直达运输的条件下,应托运人的要求,承运人承诺,在某一约定的中途港凭在启运港签发的提单另换发一套以该中途港为启运港,但仍以原来的托运人为托运人的提单,并注明%26ldquo;在中途港收回本提单,另换发以该中途港为启运港的提单%26rdquo;或%26ldquo;Switch B/L%26rdquo;字样的提单。
当贸易合同规定以某一特定港口为装货港,而作为托运人的卖方因备货原因,不得不在这一特定港口以外的其他港口装货时,为了符合贸易合同和信用证关于装货港的要求,常采用这种变通的办法,要求承运人签发这种交换提单。
签发交换提单的货物,一般由同一艘船进行直达运输,中途港并不换装,只不过由承运人在中途港的代理人收回原在启运港签发的提单,另签发以中途港为货物启运港的提单而已。
