结构式为[C6H7O2(OCH2CH20H)x(OH3-x]n, x为取代度。是由环氧乙烷与碱纤维素,以氢氧化钠为催化剂,经化学反应醚化而制得。为白色粉末,相对密度0.55-0.75。由于含有亲水性的羟乙基(-CH2CH2OH),因此易溶于冷水或热水,水溶液的pH值为6.5-8.5,对热稳定,加热时不出现凝胶化现象。成膜性好,其水溶液可制成透明的薄膜。无臭、无味、无毒。表现密度0.35-0.61g/cm3,软化点大于140 ℃,分解温度为205℃。
HEC主要用作胶体保护剂,醋酸乙烯乳液聚合的乳化剂、分散剂、增稠剂、稳定剂。贮存于阴凉、通风、干燥的库房内,防潮。
