| 多镜面望远镜 multiple mirror telescope 由多块分立镜面组成的新型天文望远镜。它避免了制造巨大单镜面望远镜的众多困难 ， 并可大幅度降低制造费用。世界上已建成3台。最早的是美国史密松天文台于 1979年启用的一台，它由6块口径1.8米的反射镜组成，它们绕中心排成正六边形，通过光束合成器使其效果相当于一架口径 4.5米的大望远镜。第二台完成于1981年10月，安装在英国普林斯顿综合技术大学天文台，它由7块口径0.4米的反射镜排成正六边形（ 其中一块在中心）组成，合成的效果与1米镜相当。第三台即是安装于美国夏威夷莫纳比亚山的10米凯克望远镜，它由 36 块口径 1.8米的镜面排成蜂窝状的正六边形，其总重达200吨，并可兼作红外观测。欧洲、加拿大、美国等国家正计划利用这种多镜面新技术来设计、制造合成效果达25米的更大的多镜面望远镜。 |
