   从对流层顶到约50千米高度的大气层。平流层内,温度随高度上升而增高,下半部随高度变化较小,上半部则增高得快。这种温度随高度升高而增高的特征,是由于大气中的臭氧主要集中在这一层,并且对太阳紫外辐射强烈的吸收形成的。层内水气和尘埃等很少,很少有云出现。平流层内气压和密度随高度的变化比对流层内缓慢。至于风,中纬度地区夏季,平流层下部仍盛行西风,风速随高度减小,到22~25千米,渐次转为东风,风速随高度加大。冬季的情况较复杂。平流层内空气大多作水平运动,对流十分微弱。大气污染物进入平流层后能长期存在。因此,保护平流层环境不受污染,具有重要意义。在高纬度地区,冬季在20~30千米高度上有贝母云。平流层顶位于离地面50~55千米高度,温度约0℃,气压约为100帕。
