    中国黄牛中分布最广、数量最多的品种。原产蒙古高原地区。中国东北、华北北部、西北各地均有。耐粗饲,耐寒,抗病力强 ,能适应恶劣环境条件 。头短宽而粗重 ,角细长,颈短,垂皮小,甲低平,胸部狭深,四肢粗壮,乳房较其他品种发达。体重因自然条件不同在250~500千克不等,膘满肥壮时屠宰率可达53%左右。泌乳期5~6.5个月,年平均产乳500~700千克。中国的三河牛和草原红牛都是以蒙古母牛为基础育成的。
