又称地理滞后作用。指地理系统对于输入的激励函数所发生的不同程度的“非及时响应”。当迟滞后的系统响应函数再重新回授到输入端时,所造成的迟滞效应将更为复杂,它在地理研究中常具有重大意义。地理迟滞效应的度量与标定,一般引用两个重要指标:时间常数和距离常数。前者意味着对一个输入信号正式发生响应所需要的时间;后者意味着对一个输入信号正式发生响应时,在空间内所需要的距离长度。大量的试验结果表明,对于纯物理性的迟滞效应而言,所选择的系统,其时间常数最好选择等于所期望的平均时间的一半。
