家用电器遥控装置通常由发送和接收两部分组成，其原理和工业遥控装置相同。图中给出彩色电视机的红外遥控的框图。红外发送器又称遥控小盒,大多采用单频脉冲编码调制(PCM)和间歇振荡的工作方式。当按下发送器的某一个状态键(如选台、音量、对比度等约20～30个键之一)时,小盒中的发光二级管就产生波长为0.8～3μm的红外光,并将与此状态键对应的一组脉冲发送出去。发送的红外功率约几十毫瓦,有效工作距离约7～10米,±60°角。当红外接收器收到已调制的脉冲码组后,由接收红外光的PIN光电二极管作红外线的变换预放,送至译码器进行解码,然后由微电脑进行处理，经数／模转换后，以直流电压的形式去控制彩色电视机的相关电路，从而完成各种预定的功能。家用电器遥控装置采用一位、二位、四位、八位微处理器，广泛用于大屏幕彩色电视机、盒式录像机中。
