涂料 coating 能涂敷于底材表面并形成坚韧连续涂膜(漆膜)的液体或固体高分子材料。旧称油漆、漆。主要用来对被涂表面起到装饰与保护作用。有些涂料还具有特定的功能,如耐高温、耐寒、防辐射等。涂料广泛应用于建筑、船舶、车辆、金属制品等方面。涂料由成膜物质(即基料)、颜料、填料、涂料助剂、功能组分、有机溶剂或水组成。基料是粘结颜料形成坚韧连续膜的主要组分,如聚合油脂、天然树脂或合成树脂、无机高分子等。颜料主要是无机颜料,有机颜料在装饰性较高的涂料中用量逐步增加。颜料在涂膜中除了主要用于产生所需的色彩和遮盖力外,还能增强涂膜的耐久性和耐磨性等。填料是遮盖力很差的白色或稍带色的无机颜料,主要用来增加涂膜的强度和降低成本。涂料助剂一般用来提高涂料产品和涂膜的性能。功能组分是为使涂料具有特定功能而加入的。溶剂是用来溶解基料的可挥发性液体。中国按涂料组成中成膜物质的种类不同,将涂料及其辅料分为18类,如油脂漆、天然树脂漆、酚醛树脂漆、沥青漆、醇酸树脂漆、氨基树脂漆、硝酸纤维素漆、纤维素酯漆、过氯乙烯漆、乙烯基树脂漆、丙烯酸酯漆、聚酯漆、环氧树脂漆、聚氨酯漆等。
