Nonlinear characteristics of the precipitation anomaly over china during the last five decades were investigated by applying a back-propogation neural network-based nonlinear principal component analysis(NLPCA) method to the seasonal rainfall anomaly data.

Based on the NCEP/NCAR monthly mean reanalysis data and the observed rainfall data over South China in June from 1951 to 2005,the variations of western Pacific subtropical high(WPSH),vertical motion and the water vapor transport,which are related to the precipitation anomaly in the South China,are analyzed statistically.
