This article describes the formations of heavy-duty combination freight trains,theoretically analyzes the principle and magnitude of longitudinal impact under traction and braking conditions,elaborates the security risks that could exist in case of a large longitudinal impact,and describes an operational control strategy for reducing longitudinal impact on heavy-duty combination freight trains.
