巴曼子是距今两千多年前战国时代巴国的将军。巴曼子墓俗称“将军坟”，坐落在渝中区七星岗莲花池旁。现存墓碑为民国初荣县但懋辛题，曰“东周巴将军曼子之墓”。据《华阳国志·巴志》载:东周末期，巴国将军曼子求楚国出兵平内乱，许诺以三座城池相谢。乱既平，巴曼子不忍国家割让城池，“乃自刎以头授楚使”，请向楚王致歉。楚王感动，“以上卿礼葬其头”，巴国“亦以上卿礼葬其身”。有诗赞其事曰:“刎颈高风悬日月，存城旧事邈山河。”
巴曼子墓始建年代已不可考，历代皆有所修葺。现存巴曼子墓重建于1922年。
巴曼子生于东周末年的临江城（今忠县）。巴曼子为保城池而自刎，后人念其忠诚，改临江为忠州。巴曼子刎首留城处的古城墙位于县城东门，现依然可见。
