洞穴遗址 cave site 古代人类利用山岩自然洞穴,在其中生活,或一度埋葬死者,从而留有原生文化堆积的一种遗址类型。古文化遗物和化石由洞外被水冲入洞内形成再生堆积的那种洞穴遗存 ,不属于洞穴遗址。洞穴遗址的年代主要为旧石器时代和新石器时代,个别的可到较晚时期。它们反映出人类生产力低下、依赖洞穴作为栖息地、就近利用所处地理环境进行狩猎和采集活动的历史。中国旧石器时代的洞穴遗址,著名的如北京人洞穴,其文化堆积总厚达40米,约从70万年前延续到23万年前。中国新石器时代的洞穴遗址,以华南石灰岩溶洞发育区的最为突出,数量较多,具有代表性的有广东英德青塘洞穴遗址、广西桂林甑皮岩遗址等。
