埃及阶梯形金字塔
佐塞尔国王约在公元前2650年至公元前2575年统治古埃及。在统治期间，他以改进技术而闻名于世。当时佐塞尔决定要人工建造一座陵墓，他要求他的建筑师和宰相伊姆霍特普来为自己设计陵墓。
伊姆霍特普设想建造一座金字塔。这是创新的陵墓形状，因为直到那时为止陵墓都是平顶长方形结构的。
佐塞尔的金字塔建在古城孟菲斯附近的塞加拉。它以六层台阶向上升起，所以被称为阶梯形金字塔。金字塔全用石头砌筑，这也是一种新的构思，因为在这之前埃及的陵墓都是用泥砖建造的。
阶梯形金字塔是埃及最早的石建筑。塔内长30米的墓道通向埋葬国王的墓穴。
