性别恒常性(gender eonstaney)一种认知发展的观点，指获得对性别稳固不变的认识。获得性别恒常性的观念经历了一个发展过程。婴儿尚不能分辨不同的性别;约2岁，儿童开始学会准确确定自己的性别;3岁，开始学会准确确定他人的性别，这时还不知性别是永久的属性，不知性别是通过生殖系统的特征加以界定的，而认为性别可随时间推移(如长大以后)和条件变化(如姓名、服饰)而更改:到了5一7岁，儿童才会理解性别的连贯持久性，它是不可随意更改的;到了7一9岁，儿童才真正理解一个人的性别是由生殖系统的特征界定的。在性别恒常性的发展过程中，儿童最先理解的是自己，其次是同性别的人，最后是异性别的人。认知发展理论认为获得性别恒常性的观念是习得性别角色的关键，具备了性别恒常性:与此同时也具备了性别同一性，才有自我社会化，才有性别角色的认同。 (葛香嘉撰高玉祥审)
