即癔病。一种常见的心理疾病，多在精神刺激或不良暗示后发病。表现多样，可表现精神、神经或躯体症状，症状有鲜明的情感色彩，可反复发作。预后多较好。患者常有感情用事、易受暗示、爱自我表现等性格特点。常归入神经症。约与中国传统医学所谓"脏躁症"相似。"歇斯底里"一词乃是英文的音译，英文词来自希腊文 "νστ&ερ α",意为"子宫"。希波克拉底认为本病系女性所患，为子宫在体内游走所致，故名。
