    　　多元分析方法的一种。又称因子分析。是从大量的相关变量中抽取出最基本的维度或因素并加以分析的一组统计方法的总称。
　　
　　现代因素分析法始于C.E.斯皮尔曼。1904年他在《美国心理学杂志》上发表了这方面的第一篇论文《客观地测定"一般智力"》,1927年他进一步将其发展为现在的方法。继斯皮尔曼之后,英国的G.H.汤姆森、C.伯特,美国的L.L.瑟斯顿、J.P.吉尔福德等用因素分析探讨能力问题。而R.卡特尔、H.J.艾森克、J.L.霍恩等则用它来研究人格、动机和心理状态的结构。
　　
　　对一组观察变量进行因素分析的具体计算方法很多，它们的一般步骤是：首先根据样本观察数据计算每一对观察变量之间的相关系数，从而得到一个相关系数矩阵，然后根据相关系数矩阵去抽取能够说明变量之间相关关系的基本维度或因素,并据此作进一步的讨论分析。由于所抽取的因素反映了用来说明观察变量的假设结构，并且可以通过综合各个与这些因素高度相关的观察变量的性质来解释所得因素的含义，所以经常采用假设结构的心理学家就可以利用因素分析来检验他们的假设结构的合理性。例如,人们常常以一组测验为观察变量,通过因素分析去分析这组测验是否反映了某些特定的能力。现在，因素分析已广泛应用于心理学的各个领域。
