是一种以兴奋性增高为主的高级神经中枢急性活动失调状态。临床表现为意识模糊、定向力丧失、感觉错乱(幻觉、错觉）、躁动不安、言语杂乱，谵妄可发生于急性感染的发热期，也可见于某些药物中毒(如颠茄类药物中毒、急性酒精中毒）、代谢障碍(如肝性脑病）、循环障碍或中枢神经系统疾患等。由于病因不同，有些患者可发展为昏迷状态。
