在国际航天领域,一直有一批科学家在倡导“太空电梯”的概念,在他们的理论中,“太空电梯”是一种向太空运送货物的永久性装置。目前很多科学机构都在进行“太空电梯”的可行性研究。

不过有人担心,这样一架“太空电梯”伸向太空,并运载这么重的货物,会不会影响地球的正常运转?答案是无需担心。

根据科学家的测算,如果“太空电梯”将15吨的货物送上太空,这部分“伸出”地球的质量将使地球自转一次的时间(即一天)增加1毫微微秒,1毫微微秒只有1秒的一千亿亿分之一。“太空电梯”的倡导者之一布拉德·爱德华兹博士认为,这点影响还比不上两极冰盖融化对地球造成的影响,因此可以忽略不计。
