鹿豹座 最靠近北天极的拱极星座之一。位于小熊座的熊尾巴尖所指方向，大熊座与仙后座之间。星座中的星都很暗，看不出什么明显的星座图形。这是一个因名字写错而将错就错的星座。1624年德国数学家巴奇本想将这一大片由暗弱小星组成的星空，用《圣经》中的一匹骆驼来命名，因为这匹骆驼将利百加送到亚柏拉罕的儿子以撒那里，与以撒结为夫妻。可是，当他用希腊文字“骆驼”这个单词时，却误写成“长颈鹿”。以后就以讹传讹，将这个名字定了下来，中文译为鹿豹座。
